Today is Earth Day. At least it is in the United States. Is Earth Day an international thing? For the past few weeks I’ve been thinking that I wanted to cover the hymn For the Beauty of the Earth for Earth Day. The song feels like a perfect way to thank our Creator for His creation.
Recording a song for musicians is often like a writer writing a story. The writer might carefully plan where they expect the story to go but once they start writing, the story often goes in directions that they didn’t anticipate. Recording can be like that sometimes as well. I expected this recording of For the Beauty of the Earth to be mainly acoustic guitar and vocals. And NOT released as a Brave Machine song. It was meant to be the first song recorded for an album of hymns. But as often happens once I get in the studio, things go in directions I didn’t expect. The result is this synth drenched electronic pop version that fits right in with the Brave Machine sound.
I hope you like it and I hope it serves as a reminder of who we have to thank for this place we call home in this present age. For the Beauty of the Earth is currently available on my Bandcamp page and will eventually be available on all of the regular streaming outlets.
For the beauty of the earth
For the glory of the skies
For the love which from our birth
Over and around us liesLord of all to Thee we raise
This our hymn of grateful praiseFor the beauty of each hour
Of the day and of the night
Hill and vale and tree and flower
Sun and moon and stars of lightFor the joy of human love
Brother sister parent child
Friends on earth and friends above
For all gentle thoughts and mildFor Thyself best gift divine
To the world so freely given
For that great great love of Thine
Peace on earth and joy in heaven
